Course description

Orthodox Theology within the Church means believing in the divine revelation and its manifestation in religious life. Theology as a field of study at the university aims at introducing the Orthodox Tradition, viz. the thinking and teaching of the Church as well as the theological thinking based on it. Orthodox thinking emphasizes the joint influence of belief and mystery which opens new vistas for research. The basic studies acquaint the student with the history and theology of the Orthodox Church, from the past to the present.

During the study unit, the student gets familiarized with
- scientific research of church history and historical approaches
- the history of Christianity in general and the history of the Orthodox Churches in particular

Method of completion  
Essay: The student writes three essays. One (ca 6 pp.) on "What is Church History and how to study it?", and the other two (each some 7 pp.) on early and medieval history of Christianity.
